MUMBAI: Over one lakh persons who work and live in the Bandra-Kurla Complex, the city’s premier business district, will be served by an internal bus system operated by the BEST, which will connect them with the Bandra, Kurla and Sion railway stations.
The service will help resolve transportation problems office staff face going to and coming from the railway stations.
It will give a fillip to travel within the premier business sector, which is increasingly seeing many corporate offices, banks and even consulates.
Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) commissioner Rahul Asthana said they held discussions with the BEST, which has agreed to operate luxury buses, which will be paid for by the MMRDA.
MMRDA officials said officials of the US consulate, which is in the business district, had pointed out lacunae in transport arrangements along with several corporates.
Residents pointed that it was impossible to get transport after 5 pm as the buses are overcrowded and autorickshaws and taxis are not available.
